They act just like the apostles who told Jesus that he should call fire down from heaven to consume those that had rejected Him in Samaria. Jesus’ reply was, ” I came to save life, not to take it” People can sometimes get just as heard hearted and heard headed as these disciples were. Jesus even told them that their hearts were hard because they did not consider the miracle of the loaves and the fish, when they were so surprised at Jesus calming the storm.

I need to dig into this a little more. Patrick also has some numbers on this. The number of births to second- and third-generations of families that have immigrated are always substantially less than the first generation. I *suspect* (although I don’t have immediate data) that most of the growth of Islam in Europe comes either from (a) immigration (e.g. new people arriving), (b) births to families, or (c) conversion-via-marriage (e.g. not outright conversion so much as someone marrying someone else and converting in the process). I also suspect that many of those converts are not very serious about the faith; it’s primarily a formality. For example, technically Robert Scoble (http://www.scobleizer.com) converted to Islam to marry his wife, but as far as I can see this is primarily a formality. Is it more than that for a typical European marriage to an immigrant?

Yes, it really shows that we are made in God’s image. I really like that Jesus brings us in close to God. He says it earlier in the chapter, “Very truly I tell you, whoever accepts anyone I send accepts me; and whoever accepts me accepts the one who sent me.” Sort of mind blowing.

So great to have people like C Keener bend their lives toward helping the rest of us make better sense of what we read. Thanks for passing along this comment, and for the observation about how the Son and Father treat each other. The kindness and mutual respect evident among Father, Son and Spirit make them, somehow, a bit more personal.
